Differences between Education and Training:-
(1) Scope:-
Education:- The scope of education is wide which covers all-round development of an individual.
Training:- The scope of training is very narrow which is meant for specific purpose. It develops professional competencies.
(2) Aim:-
Education:- The total development of physical, mental, moral, social, spiritual aesthetic aspects of the learners.
Training:- Developing proficiency in a specific or particular skill to do a job efficiently.
(3) Duration:-
Education:- Duration of education is as long as the history of mankind. It continues from womb to tomb.
Training:- Duration of training is fixed. It maybe for a week, a month, a year or some years.
(4) Sources:-
Education:- Learning takes place in almost all places - home, hospital, hotels, hostels and political, social, religious and educational institutions.
Training:- Training is provided in hospital, workshop, some colleges, industries and training centres etc.
(5) Knowledge:-
Education:- Education provides both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Training:- It bestows more importance to practical knowledge.
(6) Curriculum:-
Education:- Curriculum of education is broad and it is not pre-determined except formal education. It relates to all aspects of life.
Training:- Curriculum of training is in narrow and fixed. It relates to development of proficiency in specific skills.
(7) Teaching methods:-
Education:- Different methods of teaching are followed according to the interests of pupils and the nature of subjects.
Training:- Limited methods of training are adopted proceeding from one skill to another. They are practical in nature. Training in specific skill requires specific method.
(8) Teacher:-
Education:- Teachers are well-versed in their subject areas. No teacher for informal education.
Training:- Only trained, well-experienced and skilled persons are required to impart training.
(9) Discipline:-
Education:- The stress is laid on social discipline. All people should adjust in life according to the circumstances.
Training:- The stress is laid on strict discipline. Training does not socialise a person, but it develops discipline.
(10) Motivation:-
Education:- Social prestige is the source of inspiration in education.
Training:- The source of motivation in training is economic aspect.
(11) Rules:-
Education:- It does not follow rigid rules and regulations except in formal education.
Training:- Training has rigid and systematic rules and regulations.
(12) Outcome:-
Education:- Knowledge, certificates or degrees and good citizens are the outcome of education.
Training:- Trained up individuals to carry out the task skillfully is the outcome of training.
(13) Types:-
Education:- It is of three types: formal, informal and non-formal education.
Training:- It is of two types: pre-service and in-service training.
(14) Evaluation:-
Education:- Evaluation of an individual is done on the basis of his social adjustment.
Training:- Evaluation of an individual is done on the basis of his efficiency in skill.
(15) Availability:-
Education:- It is available to all on payment of cash except informal education.
Training:- Training may be available at free of cost when it is offered by the government or management to their workers, but not applicable to all categories.
